Peter Hoven was born in Kroonstad and currently lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Having dabbled in performances throughout his studies, he started his musical career when he formed an acoustic duo with Gerald Clark (front man of Delta Blue ) called Clark & Van der Hoven in January 2006. They were voted best band of the August leg of Oppikoppi in the same year. This duo split up after two years when Peter realized that he wanted to have more individual freedom to control the outcome of the music he was writing.
He has shared stages with the likes of Albert Frost, RJ Benjamin, Bok van Blerk and Southern Gypsy Queen to mention a few. In 2007, Peter Hoven was invited to perform with a renowned American blues/folk artist Brian Kramer at the annual Aardklop Arts Festival hosted in Potchefstroom.
For the last year he has been working on his first solo album that will be released in March 2010! A prolific songwriter, his vocals capture the essence of melodic soulfulness with a rhythmic acoustic guitar following suit. Peter Hoven is supported by some of the best musicians in SA including his full-time lead guitarist Henry Steel.
In recent years he has performed at Oppikoppi (Easter & August), Splashy Fen, White Mountain Folk Festival and STRAB in Mozambique. Among other endeavours, Hoven has been the producer of The Eric Clapton ‘Slowhand’ Tribute Show for the last year and a half with great success.
Peter Hoven’s music has an emotional yet edgy flavor to it and captures a broad market.
